Privacy Policy
Last updated: May 27, 2026
This Privacy Policy describes how CalculatorCafe ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and protects information when you visit and use calculatorcafe.com (the "Site"). We are committed to handling your data responsibly and being transparent about our practices.
By using the Site, you consent to the data practices described in this policy. If you do not agree with any part of this policy, you should stop using the Site.
1. Information we collect
1.1 Information you provide voluntarily
We collect personal information only when you choose to provide it. Currently, the only feature that collects personal data is the contact form, which asks for your name, email address, and message text. We use this information solely to respond to your inquiry. We do not add you to any mailing list, and we do not share your contact information with third parties.
1.2 Calculator inputs
How your inputs are handled depends on which calculator you use. CalculatorCafe runs two types of tools side by side.
Client-side calculators. A portion of the tools on the Site run entirely in your browser using JavaScript. The values you type, select, or upload are processed locally on your device and are never sent to our servers. This includes BMI, age, body fat, BAC, ASCVD risk, calorie, macro, birth chart, percentage, compound interest, concrete, and a number of other math, health, and astrology tools.
Server-side calculators. Most other tools submit your inputs to our server for processing because the calculation logic, tax tables, unit factors, or live market data is maintained on the server. The result is computed in PHP and returned to your browser. This category includes the majority of our finance tools (paycheck, mortgage, loan, US federal and state tax estimators, lottery tax), all currency and cryptocurrency converters (which fetch a live exchange rate from a third-party API for each conversion), and many converter, construction, and education tools.
What happens to server-side inputs. When you submit a form on a server-side calculator, your inputs travel to our server over HTTPS, get computed, and the result is returned to your browser. We do not save these inputs to a database. We do not link them to your name, email address, or any other personal information you may have provided through the contact form. We do not use them to build user profiles or target advertising.
Your inputs may appear in standard web server access logs as part of the request URL or POST body. Access logs are retained for up to 90 days and are used only for security investigation, error diagnosis, and aggregate traffic analysis. After 90 days, logs are rotated and overwritten automatically.
1.3 Information collected automatically
When you visit the Site, certain technical information is collected automatically by our servers and third-party service providers. This includes:
- Your IP address (which may indicate your approximate geographic location)
- Browser type and version (e.g., Chrome 120, Safari 17)
- Operating system (e.g., Windows 11, macOS, Android, iOS)
- Device type and screen resolution
- The URL of the page that referred you to our Site
- Pages you visit on our Site and time spent on each page
- Date and time of each visit
- Language preference set in your browser
This information is used in aggregate to analyze traffic patterns, diagnose technical issues, and improve the Site. We do not use this data to identify individual users.
We also count how many times each calculator page is opened. These counts are stored as anonymous numbers per calculator, with no identifying information attached. They help us decide which tools to improve, expand, or retire.
1.4 Cookies and local storage
Cookies are small text files stored on your device by your browser. We use cookies and browser local storage for the following purposes:
- Theme preference: We store your selected color theme (e.g., green, blue, amber) in a cookie named
cc_themeso the Site remembers your choice across visits. - Dark mode preference: We store your light/dark mode preference in browser local storage under the key
cc_dark. - Saved calculators: If you save a calculator to your favorites using the heart icon, the list is kept in your browser's local storage. We never see or sync this list.
- Analytics cookies: Google Analytics sets cookies (e.g.,
_ga,_gid) to distinguish unique visitors and track session information. These cookies expire after 2 years and 24 hours, respectively. - Advertising cookies: Google AdSense sets cookies to serve ads relevant to your interests and to limit the number of times you see a particular ad. These cookies may track your browsing activity across multiple websites.
You can manage or disable cookies through your browser settings. Disabling essential cookies (theme and dark mode) will not affect calculator functionality but may reset your visual preferences on each visit. Disabling analytics and advertising cookies will prevent third-party tracking but will not affect your ability to use our tools.
1.5 Search queries
When you use the search bar on our Site, three things are recorded in a log table: the text of your query (truncated to 100 characters), the number of results returned, and a short 8-character hash derived from your IP address. The IP hash is used to roughly count distinct searchers without storing the original address. It is not linked to your name, email, or any other personal information you may have provided.
We use search logs to find out which calculators people are looking for that we have not yet built, and to identify queries that return no useful results. Search log entries are retained for analytics purposes; see Section 5 for retention details.
2. How we use collected information
We use the information described above for the following purposes:
- To operate, maintain, and improve the Site and its features
- To respond to contact form submissions and user inquiries
- To analyze traffic and usage patterns in aggregate (e.g., which calculators are most popular, which pages have high bounce rates)
- To detect and prevent security threats, spam, and abuse
- To serve display advertisements through Google AdSense
- To monitor site performance and diagnose technical errors
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties for marketing purposes.
3. Third-party services
We rely on the following third-party services to operate the Site. Each of these services may collect data independently, subject to their own privacy policies:
Google Analytics (analytics.google.com): Provides website traffic analysis including pageviews, session duration, user demographics, and traffic sources. Google Analytics uses cookies to collect this data in anonymized form. You can opt out of Google Analytics tracking by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on. Google Privacy Policy.

ExchangeRate API and CoinGecko API: We use these services to fetch live currency and cryptocurrency rates. These API calls are made from our server, not from your browser. Your personal information is not shared with these providers; the only data sent is the currency pair codes (e.g., USD, EUR, BTC).
4. Data sharing
We do not sell your personal information. We may share data only in the following circumstances:
- With service providers: As described above, third-party services (Google, Cloudflare) receive certain data as part of their normal operation.
- To comply with legal obligations: We may disclose information if required by law, regulation, court order, or governmental request.
- To protect rights and safety: We may disclose information when we believe it is necessary to protect the rights, safety, or property of CalculatorCafe, our users, or the public.
5. Data retention
Contact form submissions (name, email, message) are stored in our email system and are retained for up to 12 months, after which they are deleted. Server access logs are retained for up to 90 days. Search query logs are retained for analytics purposes. Calculator hit counts are stored as aggregate numbers with no expiration. Analytics data retention follows Google's default settings (26 months for user-level data). Cookies have varying expiration periods as described in Section 1.4.
6. Data security
We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect the information we collect. The Site is served over HTTPS (TLS encryption) to protect data in transit. Our hosting environment uses firewall protection and regular security updates. Access to server infrastructure is restricted to authorized personnel.
However, no method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. While we work to protect your data, we cannot guarantee absolute security.

- Do Not Track: Some browsers send a "Do Not Track" signal. We do not currently respond to DNT signals, but you can use the opt-out mechanisms described above.
To exercise any of these rights, please contact us through our contact page. We will respond to your request within 30 days.
For California residents (CCPA)
If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information we collect, request its deletion, and opt out of the sale of personal information. As stated above, we do not sell personal information. To submit a CCPA request, contact us through our contact page.
For European residents (GDPR)
If you are located in the European Economic Area, you have additional rights under the General Data Protection Regulation, including the right to data portability and the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
