Day Calculator
Calculate the number of days between any two dates, including weekend and weekday counts.
What Is a Day Calculator?
A day calculator finds the number of days between two dates, adds or subtracts days from a date, or determines what date falls a specified number of days in the future or past. How many days until Christmas? How many days since your birthday? What date is 90 days from today? Enter any two dates or a date with a number of days in the calculator above for instant results including weekdays, weekends, and business days breakdowns with full calendar detail.
How to Calculate Days Between Two Dates?
The calculator counts every calendar day between your start and end dates. From January 1 to March 15 in a non-leap year: January has 31 days (remaining after Jan 1: 30), February has 28 days, March 1-15 is 15 days. Total: 30 + 28 + 15 = 73 days. In a leap year, February has 29 days, making the total 74. The calculator handles all month length variations, leap years, and century exceptions (years divisible by 100 are not leap years unless also divisible by 400) automatically. Enter any two dates from any year for an exact day count with zero manual math required.
Common Date Intervals
Frequently calculated intervals: 30 days is roughly 1 month. 60 days is roughly 2 months. 90 days is roughly 3 months (a fiscal quarter). 180 days is roughly 6 months. 365 days is 1 year (366 in leap years). A standard work year is approximately 250-260 business days (52 weeks times 5 minus holidays). Pregnancy is approximately 280 days (40 weeks) from the last menstrual period. A school year is typically 180 instructional days. A 100-day countdown is a common milestone for weddings, graduations, and project deadlines. These reference intervals help estimate timelines before running exact calculations.
Business Days vs Calendar Days
Calendar days count every day including weekends and holidays. Business days (working days) exclude Saturdays and Sundays, and optionally public holidays. A 30-calendar-day period contains approximately 21-22 business days. Legal deadlines, shipping estimates, and contract terms may specify either calendar or business days, and confusing the two can cause missed deadlines with real consequences. "Net 30" payment terms typically mean 30 calendar days. "5 business days" for shipping means Monday through Friday only. The calculator shows both counts so you can use whichever applies to your specific situation.
How to Add Days to a Date?
Enter a start date and the number of days to add. The calculator accounts for varying month lengths and leap years. Adding 90 days to November 15: November remaining = 15 days, December = 31 days, January = 31 days, remaining = 90 - 15 - 31 - 31 = 13 days into February. Result: February 13. For business day addition, only weekdays count: adding 10 business days to a Monday means the result is two Mondays later (assuming no holidays). The calculator handles both calendar and business day addition seamlessly across any date range.
Countdown and Age Calculations
The calculator doubles as a countdown timer and Age Calculator. Enter today's date and a future event to see the exact number of days remaining. Enter a birth date and today to calculate age in years, months, and days. These calculations account for leap year birthdays (February 29 in non-leap years is typically recognized on February 28 or March 1). The day count is also useful for determining eligibility periods such as citizenship applications, insurance waiting periods, and probationary employment that require a specific number of days to have elapsed before proceeding.
Historical and Future Date Calculations
The calculator works for dates across centuries. How many days since the Declaration of Independence (July 4, 1776)? How many days until January 1, 2100? These long-range calculations must account for the Gregorian calendar reform, leap year century rules, and the accumulation of single-day shifts over hundreds of years. For modern dates (post-1900), the calculations are straightforward and universally agreed upon. For historical dates before 1582 (when the Gregorian calendar was introduced), results depend on which calendar system is assumed, as different countries adopted the Gregorian calendar at different times spanning several centuries. For all practical modern purposes, the calculator provides exact and universally accepted results for any date from the 20th century onward.
